The British selector has teamed up with ice cream company Ben and Jerry’s to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s ‘Legend’.
Released in 1984, the album collects all of Marley and The Wailers greatest hits and remains the highest selling Reggae album of all time to this day. Celebrating three decades since its release, ice cream makers Ben and Jerry’s have roped in ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan (MBE) to judge a host of fresh hopefuls who were challenged to submit their own cover versions of songs from the classic record. These versions – which took in styles from “Opera to RnB”, were put in front of a panel featuring a member of Marley’s family, with a select few chosen to perform at The Vaults in Waterloo next Wednesday October 15th.
Featuring performances from these competition winners and Rodigan himself, the event will also serve as the launch for Ben and Jerry’s new ‘Satisfy My Bowl’ ice cream flavour. ‘A concoction of banana ice cream beats, a mashup of caramel and cookie swirls, and a chorus of chocolatey peace signs’, a portion of the proceeds from its sale will go to the Marley family’s 1Love Foundation and Partners For Youth Empowerment to help them empower young people in Jamaica.
