Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel Radio to reformat after 30 years of broadcasts

Created in 1988 by Coldcut, and broadcasting on the then pirate radio station Kiss FM, the show has gone on to be hailed as the longest running mix series in the world, broadcasting weekly shows for the past 30 years and more recently finding home on London’s NTS radio.

There are almost certainly too many past shows to highlight, but names like DJ Shadow, Autechre, David Axelrod, Four Tet and Helena Hauff have all been contributors during Solid Steel’s 30 year run, and closing out the show’s final weekly broadcast on Friday 7th December will be Juan Atkins, the first guest to appear on the show in 1988, alongside Coldcut.

As well as the Detroit techno legend’s takeover tomorrow, exclusive mixes throughout this week have come from Gerd Janson, HAAi, The Bug, Mark Pritchard, Burnt Friedman and long-time residents DJ Food and DK.

Solid Steel is set to return in a new format in 2019.
