With Wireless on the horizon, the team have recruited Smirnoff Equalising Music to bring an all-female stage to the festival this weekend. Curated by Rinse FM, the Smirnoff House stage will showcase the foremost female talent in the hip-hop, grime, and R&B scenes.
Smirnoff Equalising Music is a three year global initiative to address gender disparity in the music industry by 2020. A key issue to address is the lack of female artists getting booked for major festivals and club nights. According to FACTS, a bi-annual study of festival lineups across Europe carried out by Female:Pressure, in 2017 women still only accounted for 19% of festival headliners.
The stage will be hosted by two influencers in UK radio: Beats 1 anchor Julie Adenuga and Rinse FM drive time host Emerald. It will have a strong local presence, with London DJs Shy One, Barely Legal and Jetsss in attendance, as well as a host of international talent, including the Catalonian reggaeton artist Bad Gyal and Brooklyn’s Lil’ Kim.
