The footwork original returns to Planet Mu for his first album in nine years.
One of the first artists to bring footwork outside of its home of Chicago, DJ Nate was the label’s first ever signing from the genre back in 2010. Discovered via Myspace, his 25 track debut album Da Trak Genious was a hit for UK dancefloors, igniting sound reactions from notable producers like Ramadanman and Addison Groove as well as paving the way for Planet Mu to bring artists like DJ Rashad, Jlin and Traxman to light.
In the decade since Da Trak Genious was released, DJ Nate has been a popular r&b and hip hop producer and performer with a strong local following. His rise was slowed after he was paralysed from the neck down two years ago, an accident which he’s recently recovered from.
Having continued to produce footwork tracks behind the scene, Planet Mu have compiled a selection of these tracks he recorded between 2010 to now to make up his new record, Take Off mode.
Said to be a direct continuity with his debut, the press release states the album will feature “his trademark yearning vocal samples, cutting them into strange new pitched up and down musical motifs, his shout outs and rough beats intact.”
Ahead of the album’s release, hear lead track ‘You Ain’t Ready To Battle’ below.
Take Off Mode is out April 26 on Planet Mu.
