Listen back to a BBC World Service gqom special

London DJ and broadcaster Emily Dust traces the story of South Africa’s gqom movement in this BBC World Service special podcast.

Featuring interviews with some of gqom’s most notable figures like DJ Lag, Distruction Boys, Naked Boyz, Griffit Vigo and TLC Fam, radio presenter Emily Dust took a trip to Durban earlier this year to find out more about the origins of the South African movement that has now taken the global club scene by storm.

A huge fan of the genre, Emily also explores the opportunities and challenges for gqom producers in Durban now that it’s become widely mainstream in South Africa, and how its popularity across Europe has influenced its progression.

Listen back to the show in full here, and look out for more from Emily Dust via her regular show on Soho Radio.
