Hyp 359: The Orb

Hyp 359: The Orb

Pioneering English electronic music group The Orb should need little introduction. Active since 1988, the rotating cast of members helmed by Alex Paterson formed around the start of the acid house scene, crafting a unique ambient take on the musical milieu that in turned developed into what we know today as ambient house.

Providing many a soundtrack for those early morning ravers once the clubs closed doors, over the course of thirty years their music has consistently risen to the top of the charts and sold out many a venue. They’ve explored the outer reaches of sound, and their humour-tinged, ne’er boring palate has encompassed ambience, electronica, house, techno, dub, global sounds and, in recent years, also embraced hip hop and minimalist composition, influencing countless musicians along the way.

This October will see them embark on a national tour with 7-dates across Autumn. The celebratory shows will feature a 30th Anniversary Greatest Hits set highlighting the best of The Orb, as well as playing tracks from their new album, No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds.

Luckily, we were just in time to pin them down for a guest mix, with the masters of ambience gracing us through delicate pieces from Brian Eno, Ulf Lohman, Teebs, Gas and more. The calm before the storm!
