Next up for the Hyponik mix series is the elusive Bristol-born, Bologna-based DJ and producer, Koehler. Emerging in 2013 with a white label for the Swedish imprint Skudge, the release married the influence of UK jungle and garage with futuristic instrumentation. Koehler has since built upon his style of menacing basslines and high-octane, twisted synthwork with releases on respected imprints like Berceuse Heroique, Diagonal, and Die Orakel. Most recently, he contributed to Whities‘ sublabel Blue with ‘Thief,’ a sample-ridden track that showcases his ability to infuse a functional peak-time banger with personality.
As a DJ, Koehler has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Helena Hauff, playing a B2B with her at 2015’s Unsound Festival in Krakow. Adding to that, he’s been a frequent fixture in Berghain’s programming, and is set to play for Klubnacht this September. His DJ performances are rumoured to be as diverse and exciting as his musical influences; he’s as likely to drop a trance classic as he is to play his signature brand of leftfield techno.
For his Hyponik mix, he’s chosen to explore his UK roots. Tune in for the next hour for as Koehler takes us through the more melodic and jazzy shades of nineties drum and bass.
