Hyp 331: Drum Thing

Hyp 331: Drum Thing

London producer Drum Thing started out making laid-back, atmospheric beats under former alias Thology. This year he’s taken his head out of the clouds and aimed his focus squarely at the dancefloor, putting together a four-track EP of surefire percussive science for Super Kitchen.

The Bristol-via-London collective popped up on our radar last year with the release of the Rhythm Foundation compilation, a bold and original statement piece filled with militant, futurist rhythms that predicted a bright future for this fast-growing label.

Drum Thing’s debut EP, ‘Warp Skin’, doesn’t stray far from the progressive template set out by the Rhythm Foundation compilation – raucous snares, neon-lit synths and subterranean bass combine to form hi-energy, visceral club music that holds no prisoners.

On the heels of his recent release, we asked Drum Thing to contribute the latest edition of our Hyp Mix series. A fitting testament to where his music finds itself today, the mix weaves plenty of unreleased heat from the man himself in between tracks from Yak, Ploy, Arma, TSVI & Wallwork and more.
