Hyp 330: Yak

Hyp 330: Yak

John Randall is Yak, the Sheffield-based producer and DJ responsible for last year’s heavyweight roller ‘Mido‘ on German-based bass label, Version.

The fiercely percussive riddim and potential anthem for 2017 has been relentlessly spun across a number of ‘floors, crossing the borders of house, techno, dubstep and funky alike.

This isn’t to say Yak hasn’t been round a minute for a minute, with previous productions for Circular Jaw and Brotherhood Sound System, as well as a ton of unreleased material championed by Swamp 81 and Livity Sound, the young producer’s blend of rolling subs, tickly percussion and sharp sonics has transposed across a number of fields within underground club music.

He’s also the co-founder of the growing party and collective Pretty Pretty Good. Acting as their trusted resident, Yak’s been able to master his craft alongside some of the top players in the game, having booked the likes of A Made Up Sound, Joe, Adesse Versions and Hunee.
