Hyp 324: Ipek Gorgun

Composer and sound artist Ipek Gorgun released her debut album Aphelion last year, a boldly experimental head-trip of a record made up of detailed micro-sound inventions. This led to an invite from RBMA to participate in “Shattered Streams”, an “experiment in musical ephemerality” in which artists were asked to provide a one-off piece that would stream on a loop for up to 24 hours, gradually degrading throughout it’s duration before disappearing forever.

Her latest foray into abstract sonics took the form of a collaboration with Night Slug’s Egyptrixx, now recording as Ceramic TL. The duo released Perfect Lung in December, an electroacoustic exploration of ecological themes conceived as a response to the global environmental crisis, and inspired by the concept of “accidental sound”.

There’s nothing accidental about our latest Hyp Mix, provided by Gorgun. Pieced together from a finely curated selection of avant-garde electronics, enigmatic sound-art and ambient obscurities, it’s an opportunity to expand your horizons and take your ears into unknown territory.
