Emerging in 2014 with ‘Bangclap‘, arguably one of the biggest weapons in the 140 region of that year, 21 year old Tommy Impey, or ‘Impey‘, comes as a key player of the new wave of producers currently creating some of the most exciting grime-leaning club constructions on the circuit.
With ties to imprints like Sector 7 Sounds and Coyote Records, Impey’s fierce instrumentals are inspired by a multitude of styles and have been chosen weapons for the sessions of notable MC’s like Skepta, Trim and Capo Lee.
His latest release, Midnight in Little Havana, saw him debut on Jon Phonics’ Astral Black imprint. Operating across five tracks, the record sees Impey showcase his versatile production skills, drawing influence from grime, Jersey club and Vangelis-esque synthscapes with beats that share an equal understanding for the context of club floors and late night solo listening.
Due to step behind deck alongside comrades Tarquin and Last Japan for our Coyote Records takeover this Friday, Impey steps to our mix series with a stack of hyperactive weapons that best find home in the colder end of the bass spectrum.
