Moody ambience and club damage geared for the winter ahead.

If you listened to Resident Advisor’s recent Exchange podcast, The Hour: Club music’s next generation, you may already be familiar with south London radio producer and DJ Martha. As well as presenting that show – which explored the nebulous territory of contemporary “club music” through discussions with the likes of Venus X, Janus and NAAFI – she regularly produces The Hour, and a number of radio documentaries for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s Stories.

Martha’s own show on Radar Radio is essential listening. Every other Thursday from 6-8pm she champions future-facing sounds emanating from bedrooms and dancefloors around the globe – where throbbing techno rubs up alongside jittering footwork, jersey club, kuduro and explosive UK rap. Each show hosts a quality guest mix – with recent slots including Sami Baha, Loom, Svani and SPF666 & Copout – as well as a monthly pen pal that shines light on their local scene, whether in Paris, Warsaw or Mexico City.

As part of London event series Clock Strikes 13, next week Martha will join Konx-Om-Pax, and Kode9 & Lawrence Lek, as they present their live audio-visual show Nøtel at the ICA. In the run-up, Martha has built a suitably chilling mix on Hyp 278; an ambient-leaning selection that features material from SKY H1’s EP for CODES, Kuedo’s recent album for Planet Mu, and two cuts from SHALT’s forthcoming EP for Astral Plane Recordings.
