Bristol/London based label Hypercolour have had a formidable run in 2015, putting out a diverse array of records from seasoned vets such as Kerrier District & Luke Vibert, Seth Troxler and Roman Flugel, as well as music from nascent underground talent like Luca Lozano, A Sagittariun and House Of Black Lanterns.
To round off 2015, they’re finishing with a hefty EP from Modini, the collaborative project between Techno don Neil Landstrumm and fellow scotsman Hostage. Entitled ‘The Answer’, the record sees Modini dive into the deeper and darker sides of Techno and Electro, from the contagious vocal refrain on ‘The Answer’ to the full throttle bass and drum work of ‘Saluting Magpies’. Landstrumm and Hostage each have a decorated solo discography, and between them have graced labels like Peacefrog, Tresor, Origami Sound and Nightshifters, as well as releasing the Modini ‘Tart EP’ earlier this year on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams.
The duo step up for the 250th instalment of the weekly Hyp mix series with a set that was recorded live at a jam-packed Edinburgh club, The Mash House, on Friday November 27. Entirely hardware generated, the recording offers a window into their dazzling live sets and helps to explain why they’ve gained a reputation as such a potent force in the UK underground.
