Moscow-based producer Art Crime made his bow on Willie Burns’ consistently brilliant WT Records last year with the ‘Never Look Back’ EP, a record we still consider somewhat overlooked. Over the course of 4 tracks he serves up a full-range of feelings for the dancefloor (from the pure joy of ‘Release’, to the uncontrollable tears of ‘Happiness Side Effects’), utilising nostalgic 90s piano to wicked effect – avoiding potentially cheesy pitfalls by creating a raw aesthetic with tape-y saturation and pounding drums. Phonica were next to recruit his talents for the ‘Obsession’ EP released this summer, picking up where the former left off with 4 more melancholic House bangers that feel both retro and futuristic.
For this week’s mix Art Crime has turned in 70-mins worth of music that he likes to listen to “when at home, taking a train, walking around the streets, or hanging, drinking wine with someone for hours at the apartment.” Think lo-fi Ambient experiments, blissful House epics and melodic Electro from the likes of Terekke, Aurora Halal, Sciahri, Gas and more. From Russia with love.
