Death, Taxes and Martelo tearing up the dance. Those are the only certainties in this life. The magnificently coiffed DJ has been one of the surest bets in club land for over a decade now, liable to be found in a booth near you blending Hip-Hop anthems and up to the minute Dance music with a healthy amount of curveballs. A Glasgow native who later lived in Jersey, he’s been a resident of London for some time now – getting his break as the tour DJ for Diplo’s protege Santogold and through a regular slot at Notting Hill’s famed YoYo. He’s since found himself spinning around the world, churning out mixtapes and dropping remixes – all whilst holding down an essential weekly session Wedneday’s on NTS.
Set to line up in fabric’s Room 1 this Friday 20th March on a raucous bill that includes DJ EZ, Oneman, Flava D and New York Transit Authority – with a host of Dance Mania legends set to slay Room 2, Martelo delivered this week’s Hyp Mix. Inviting us into his weird and wonderful sonic universe, we get a mix that makes bedfellows of tiple-headed Atlanta Trapstars Migos and Pearson Sound – keeping us on our toes without ever letting the party vibe let up.
