Hyp 211: Kormac

Kormac is a DJ, Producer and turntablist from Dublin. Drawing deeply from antiquated music and forgotten artefacts found in dusty crevices of second hand junk shops alongside his many excursions with a ten piece band, his eclectic, brass heavy sound touches on Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz.
For his most recent LP – ‘Doorsteps’ released via Dublin’s Bodytonic collective, Kormac visited the homes of ‘Trainspotting’ author Irivine Welsh, spoken word artist and Bonobo collaborator Bajka, Mercury Music Prize winner Speech Debelle and Americana artist Micah P. Hinson wielding a dictaphone, for a series of vocal collaborations which appeared on the record.
For Hyp 211 he’s surprised us with a Hip-Hop focused mix. This slamming selection takes in up stars of the present such as Run The Jewels, Issiah Rashad and Black Milk, while also respectfully doffing a cap to the timeless talents of DOOM, Slum Village and more. Finding room for the percussive chants of Mo Kolours and fresh heat from Romare, Kormac manages to tell a distinct story from very recognisable parts.
