An unabashed lover of all things bass, Melbourne via Birmingham producer Arctic has been totting up low-end filed outbursts for the likes of Coyote Records and Liminal Sounds over the last few years, with his latest landing place coming in the shape of Nottingham’s Tumble Audio. His ‘I Wish I Owned A Magic Carpet’ for Tumble, out next Monday, stands out as his finest work to date, with five brutally effective cuts that cheekily tip their hat to Bassline, Garage and Grime. The title track, which hilariously juxtaposes samples of Disney’s classic Aladdin with expletives, typifies the release’s charm and danceability – and its rightly being wheeled up by everyone from Mumdance to Spooky.
On Hyp Mix duty this week Arctic eases us in with Dub, Bossa Nova and Calypso before upping the levels with a flurry of club tracks from the likes of Mood II Swing and Dub Phizix. Rounding things off by bombarding us with b-line and then fading out in a haze of boom bap, its 45 minutes of high octane fun to start your week off.
