Hyp 194: Alma Construct

Alma Construct is the alias of 19 year old UK producer Josh Thompson, R&S records’ latest signee. Not bad work, finding a home for your debut release on a hugely influential label that’s been active longer than you’ve been alive. Fortunately, Thompson’s productions fit in perfectly with R&S’s restlessly innovative aesthetic – dark yet dreamy, sombre but undecided, one moment haunting and one moment hopeful. His self titled EP contains five tracks, and is in part inspired by La Planète Sauvage – a stop-motion science fiction film from the 70s by René Laloux. This might explain some of the futuristic and immersive themes, created through use of beatboxes, samplers, tape machines and guitar pedals.
Thompson’s mix includes two tracks from the EP, embedded amongst ambient cuts and splashes of psychedelia. Relax as it floats through natural birdsong, washed out beats, industrial and sci-fi soundscapes, rising and falling across a half an hour.
