Formed out of, “a mutual love of Goulash on a Friday night”, Pride Of Gombe is a seven headed DJ’ing monster that has been melodiously rearing its head at nights in London and Berlin for the last few years. Comprised of Don’t Be Afraid’s resident wax obsessive Mr.Beatnick, Werkdisc’s shapeshifting Lukid, envelope pushing Rush Hour producer Bnjmn, Vase’s windswept beatsmith Samoyed, Astro Dynamics boss Rekordah, new recruit Adam Oko and fomer DC Recording man Kelpe, the group bonded over their aforementioned shared appreciation of Hungarian stew and a general disregard for genre conventions.
Set to take control of South London’s brand spanking new outdoor venue The Paperworks this Saturday for Brewster’s All Dayer, a free “microfestival” named after their favourite Richard Pryor film, Brewster’s Millions, we invited Pride Of Gombe to drop some knowledge on the 189th Hyp Mix. With each member given around 15 minutes each to helm the ship, we’re taken on a sunkissed voyage through dusty Digi-Dancehall, instrumental Afro-Pop, Hardcore and much, much more. With plenty of unreleased material and top secret oddities pilfered from the bottoms of the deepest crates, this one is tracklist free.
