Hyp 138: Shox

As a dj for Rinse FM and producer for labels such as Roska’s Kicks & Snares, Audio Doughnuts and NYC’s label-cum-brand Trouble & Bass, 26 year old James Morreale finds himself in a great position in 2013, following years of steady and measured progress. Starting out as UKG enthusiast collecting rare white labels by old guard figures such as Zed Bias & Zinc, figures who Morreale can now count as fans of his own music. This is an individual to keep a bookmark on this year, whether that be as a broadcaster, dj or producer.
His Hyponik mixtape has been constructed with clubs and dancing in mind; a mixture of contemporary and classic that finds a neat balance between unreleased material and straight peak-time bullets. The East Londoner has decided to omit any of his own work (bar one remix) as much of the music he’s been working on recently has shaped into forthcoming releases which will begin to surface when he feels the time is right. Amen to that.
