Hyp 132: Alex Deamonds
Tweet
For Hyp 132 we turn to Ilford-born DJ and producer Alex Deamonds. Influenced in his teens by the sounds of Chicago house and the sub-heavy noises permeating his radio via Rinse FM, Deamonds went on to cut his teeth on the East London underground club circuit, hosting on pirates such as Deja Vu FM and Temptation FM, and holding down a regular show on internet station Sub FM. Having shifted his focus to production in recent years, Alex saw his debut release drop on Switched On Records in 2012, with the 3-track ‘Credentials’ EP exploring tough house variations. The follow-up came last week on Native City Records, with the ‘Games’ EP seeing Deamonds delving deeper into the realms of muscular analogue house and techno, alongside remix action from Donewrong and Native City bosses Hannah Holland and Deboa.
Ahead of further releases on Native City and his own East London Club Trax imprint, Alex has handed us ‘The Crows Mix’ that reps both the house music heritage that inspired him growing up and the modern sounds that continue to influence him. It’s a vital blend of the new, classic and unreleased, with cuts from Rob Hood, Omar S, Prince, Booka Shade and DJ Funk sitting comfortably alongside tracks from Deamonds, Bok Bok, Jam City, Girl Unit and Alix Alvarez.
