Hyp 054: DMX Krew
Tweet
In the year 2011, what can be said about Ed Upton, the man more commonly known as DMX Krew? Straddling numerous genre guises over the years, Ed’s take on vintage electro, bass and experimental music is second to none. His 6 albums on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex Records (including the now legendary ‘The Collapse Of The Wave Function’ series), and numerous releases through his own Breakin’ Records label, has seen ghetto-bass, analogue synth epics, techno, electro-bass and more all blended lovingly into an ouvre that is as relevant in today’s world of UK bass as it ever was in the early 90s, when DMX Krew first came through.
With Ed performing alongside Andrew Weatherall, A Guy Called Gerald, Radioactive Man and more at WANG’s 12th birthday this weekend (November 12), the man himself put together a half hour mix for Hyponik. An avid hip-hop fan, (the genre has always being at the foundation of DMX Krew’s work), the mix suitably takes in 12 tracks of absolute gold with tracks from Schoolly D, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, and more. There’s no stream this time, but you can download the mix in full by clicking HERE, and tickets for the WANG show can be found over at Ransom Note.
