Hyp 050: Ossie
Tweet
As we reach a half century in our run of exclusive mixes, we call upon one of the UK’s most exciting new production talents, UK funky rising star Ossie.
Having been a follower of house and UK funky since his formative years in East London, the young producer turns out deep percussion-driven house music, calling on his love for r’n’b and keen ear for a pop vocal. The results so far have been in equal parts innovative and accessible, his ‘Tarantula’ EP on Reecha and Jon Rust’s Lightworks label being one of the UK funky anthems of 2010, whilst this years ‘Set The Tone’ EP, his opening salvo for Kode9’s scene-shaping Hyperdub label, has been warmly welcomed by audiences and selectors alike. Add to that a couple of deft bootlegs (Moloko’s ‘Sing It Back’ being a particular highlight), and you have a prodigious talent in the making.
His Hyp Mix blends big room house with more underground fare, switching from the likes of Karizma and Stimming to Cassius and East Everything with ease. With releases currently pencilled on both Lightworks and Hyperdub in 2012, you can expect to hear a lot more from this UK house talent. Stream below, or download via our Soundcloud.
