Hyp 044: Semtek

Hyp 044: Semtek

This weeks mix comes from Don’t Be Afraid boss Semtek. Currently residing in London, the techno and house name has been running his own imprint since 2009, showcasing his own productions across the first four outings from the label, and more recently, fresh, house-leaning productions from none other than London beat man Mr. Beatnick.

The label seems very much a labour of love, with a firm grip on quality over quantity, and a handful of releases recieving props, plays and remixes from some of techno’s big guns.

Semtek’s Hyp mix is an underground affair, displaying a knowledge for the techno scene’s fervent underbelly, with all that rugged dubbed-out kick drum business that always gets us hyped.

As the man himself put it: “there’s a whole swathe of great techno music that’s being released at the moment which is often ignored on account of the fact it’s not lumped in to the ‘bass music’ continuum and I wanted to represent some of those sounds, especially some of the really brilliant deep hypnotic music that continues to come out of Germany.”
