The 36th session in our Hyp series comes from none other than new house/bass talent, the Ratcatcher.
Having displayed his fixed selection skills and robust production chops as Rodski, part of the Welsh garage collective CRST, who had a blazing year in 2010 releasing standardly hard 12’s and remixing the likes of The XX, 2011 sees the Ratcatcher moniker come into play, as Rodski explores deeper territories amidst the 4/4 beat.
The Ratcatcher is Rodski in straight house mode, his productions leaning on the percussive/minimal side (check the rhythmic vibrations of his Steve Reich and Crystal Fighters re-edits), whilst his work with fellow Welshman Doc Daneeka has spurned a release on Tom Kerridge’s PTN Records, as their skewed take on the UK funky template birthed a number of cracked percussive bangers.
His Hyp mix sees Ratcatcher on top form, turning in a typically tight mixture of contemporary house and bass. With huge cuts from current favorites Blawan, Levon Vincent, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kim English and more, plus a few choice productions from the man himself, this one’s built for the summer months.
