Video Premiere: Fred P & SMBD – ‘Angel Dust’ (Modern Dialect)

First meeting over a decade ago in New York, Fred P and SMBD finally crossed swords in the studio late last year with a sublime EP of lush house infusions.

The first release to launch SMBD’s Modern Dialect imprint, Mantras for the Travelling Souls (vol.1) sees the pair let loose on five astral jams that travel through the spaces of house, techno, broken beat and hip hop.

Likened to the sounds of Theo Parrish, DJ Qu or Moodyman, it’s no wonder the works of these two have been boxed in such a starlit bracket, with Fred P the longtime deep house don of NYC and SMBD holding a production CV that reads off names like Freerange, BBE, Apron, Local Talk, Defected, Brownswood, Mala, Roots Manuva and more.

Hitting us with a video to premiere for record cut ‘Angel Dust’, watch Fred P and SMBD wander through the nighttime streets of London in a colourful episode that echoes the electrifying harmony they’re able to form together.

Mantras for the Travelling Souls is out now on Modern Dialect.
