2018 has been quite the year. The countless number of incredible parties, game-changing releases, innovative technologies, progressive debates and talks, and jaw-dropping performances have made it a great time to be a music fan. Faces old and new have all contributed, and previously taboo and unquestioned topics are becoming the subject of heated debate. Clubs have shut and opened, whilst festivals emerge internationally, spawning novel scenes and a growing global interest in dance music. With the hostile political and social climate sweeping the world, ravers have found precious escapism on the dancefloor. Though there are still obvious strides to be made, the past year has witnessed the electronic community journey in the right direction.
To remember this fantastic year, and re-live those top musical moments, we’ve returned to our awards poll to champion the best of 2018. We’ve shortlisted the best DJs, live acts, releases, labels and party series from the year in an attempt to highlight the work of those who deserve it. It’s up to you to decide who takes the biscuit in each category. Check out the nominated acts and imprints below. Results will be announced next week. Here’s to 2018!

There’s been a steep incline of ambitious attempts to transform productions and DJ sets to that of a live performance this year, with many artists wanting to break away to their own paths and avoid being grouped onto ready-made club lineups. Whilst the idea is always an exciting spectacle if manoeuvred with thought and preparation, there’s always a risk that sounds can lose their substance in a live setting. Here are 10 acts we feel are setting the bar of what’s possible when done with the right execution, hopefully you agree.
Live act of the year
The DIY tradition of independent record labels still manages to thrive in an increasingly turbulent climate. With the amount of new artists emerging via online radio stations, record labels and streaming platforms, it can be hard to keep track of who you should be paying attention to and which producer is responsible for that tune you keep hearing in the rave. It’s always refreshing to witness new talents step on to the scene, and 2018 has certainly seen a healthy expansion of voices we didn’t know we needed in our lives till now. Whether approaching the spotlight with a fresh spin on existing templates or daringly making us pay attention by offering something unexpected, here are 10 breakthrough acts we think deserve a special mention.

For that reason it is always particularly impressive when a unique showcase of blends can completely stop you in your tracks, here are 10 mixes for us that did just that.
