Review: Proc Fiskal – Shleekit Doss (Hyperdub)

Edinburgh’s grime freak Proc Fiskal pulls out another bag of colourful tricks for Hyperdub.

Following his highly spirited debut album Insula in 2018, Edinburgh’s grime freak Proc Fiskal pulls out another bag of colourful tricks for London’s ever-experimental Hyperdub camp.

Continuing to find his flex in high speed 160bpm territory, Proc throws sonic curveballs at the frameworks of grime, footwork and jungle once more on Shleekit Doss, with six tracks that are triggered to echo the genre-defiance and high-energy vibe of the club night he once ran under the same name.

From the synth bursts of ‘Satan’ and jungle licks of ‘Pico’, to the bubble-lit melodies and sino formulas of ‘Smiths Deli’ and ‘Prop O Deed’, the Scottish producer continues to find alien ways to reinvent the movements he’s looked to from an outsider’s stance.

Shleekit Doss is out now via Hyperdub.
