Our London Guide to Record Store Day 2019

We take you through the best RSD parties across the Capital.

The UK’s ready for another Record Store Day on the 13th of April. It’s arguably the busiest time of year for shoppers and shops alike, with a special selection of vinyl releases are curated and repressed exclusively for the day. Festivities aren’t only located on these secluded Isles, there are thousands of record stores celebrating the day from Shanghai to New York, so check what’s on nearby.

Supported by, Fred Perry, Sound Performance, Rega Research and Friels, the collective has the force behind it to oversee more than a few exciting events. In the truly remarkable locations, there are parties with a fine selection of DJs to help shoppers relax and groove. We’ve helped compile some of the most tantalising events thrown in London.

1. The Cause

Ashley House Depot, Ashley Rd, London N17 9LZ

A huge collab effort from the people down at The Cause and the newly formed Threads Radio, offering a free all-day crate digging party experience. They’ve teamed up with renowned labels and record shops, with stalls from in-house Kristina Records and Grow Tottenham’s Vinyl Hunter, Lobster Records, Yellow Machines & Modified Magic, Ceri / Find Your Own Records, and Seven Sisters’ own Zen Records.

To complement the labels and record shops,  artists on hand are Definition, Unknown Artists, Enclave Records, Elliott & Ornography (Threads), Felix Raman (Brief Encounters/Threads), Inhale Exhale (Threads/Unbound Events), Kenny Mulligan, Massive Dance Hits (Threads), Montana Cruz, Perfect History DJs (Threads) and Rico Casazza.

We know record hunting’s hungry business, so we’re glad Sud Italia will be supplying proper Neapolitan pizza.

Though the day ends at 22:00, The Cause continues with a party hosted by The Model.

2. Phonica

51 Poland Street, W1F 7LZ London, United Kingdom

Record staple, Phonica, is gearing up to throw another party in Central. They’ve teamed up with Junction 2 Festival and Old Blue Last Beer. The message they’ve given is, “expect a few pleasant surprises throughout the day”, and with Daniel Avery, Peach, Funkineven and HAAi spinning last year, we’ll sure they’ll come through.

Opening at 9am for those who wish to catch the worm or, better yet, a few of the exclusive records they’ve been parading around. With special guests playing up to 9pm on TPI’s imposing Soundsystem, proceedings continue with Artwork and Phonica Residents at Cell 200.

3. Container Records, Pop Brixton

49 Brixton Station Road, London, SW9 8PQ, United Kingdom

Taking place across their events space, Container Records and Pop Brixton invite a host of labels to showcase their goods. Awesome Tapes From Africa, White Peach Records, Controlled Weirdness and Le Chatroom are only a small percentage of those on offer.

The event’s on from 09:00 – 00:00 and is separated into different areas. The shop is where the DJs and the main record stock is held. Main Square from 12pm – 7pm curates more DJs and record labels selling exclusive releases. Greenhouse (Upstairs, 12pm – 7pm) hosts Cigarette Records and Container Records compete to deliver their second hand stocks. Finally, the Event Space (7pm) is where there’ll be a charity raffle for Key Changes.

Expect to be hearing some killer tunes being played by Oneman B2B Slimzee, TSVI B2B Wallwork, Pete Cannon, Kouslin, We Buy Gold and Altar & Portara.
