London producer Mina readies infectious dancehall-inspired EP, Satellite

The EP features artists Mina worked with during a trip to Freetown, Sierra Leone.

London DJ and producer Mina has been on the rise this year. As well as keeping her Soundcloud populated with an excellent selection of edits and remixes, she unleashed the stellar Kabala EP on Lisbon label Enchufada earlier this year, and is now gearing up for a new self-released five-track EP.

Out September 28, Satellite sees Mina continue to work the blend of dancehall, afropop and UK funky you may hear at the Boko! Boko! parties she hosts with Tash LC and DJ Chin, and on the Radar Radio show of the same name.

Mina and Wanted

Lead EP track ‘Mama’, which we’re premiering today, is a collaboration between Mina and dancehall-inflected vocalist Wanted from Freetown, Sierra Leone. Wanted is a member of WAYout, the studio Mina worked at whilst she was in Freetown, and where the vocals for this EP were recorded. WAYout is also a registered charity that offers training to disadvantaged young people in Sierra Leone in everything from audio engineering to video editing and journalism.

It’s a deeply personal track and catchy as hell, with Wanted sharing memories from his childhood atop a bubbling instrumental that later resurfaces on the EP as ‘Satellite Riddim’. Press play below.

Satellite is out September 28. Keep up to date with Mina on Facebook and Twitter.
