London label Ex-Local debut with Earth Sign EP from Kxngs

The south London producer shows off an array of globe-spanning sounds.

Following his time studying Sound Arts at the University Of The Arts London – a degree which saved him from homelessness on London’s streets – Brixton-based producer Kxngs has been winning admirers across the board recently with his eclectic sound.

His upcoming Earth Sign EP will be the first release for Ex-Local, a label born from the London party of the same name, which has played host to Jamie XX, Mssingno and Bala Club. Drawing on Kxngs’ global travels, particularly to Africa, and taking inspiration from Deepak Chopra’s ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’, the EP incorporates a varied blend of influences, from afrobeat to kuduro and traditional music from South America and the Middle East.

‘Energy Circulation’ channels the EP’s broad sonic palette through a dancefloor template, layering conventional sub-bass and traditional instrumentation over a dynamic collection of 4/4 kicks.

Earth Sign is out October 14 on Ex-Local, pre-order it on vinyl here, and on digital here.
