First Listen: Xtra Brux – ‘Somebody’ (Dance Regular)

Killer club movement from EVM128 and James Rudie’s new label venture.

Bruk soldiers EVM128 and James Rudie, both staples of London’s CoOp presents Selectors Assemble crew, have set up a brand new label Dance Regular to continue on their club ventures.

A follow on from EVM128’s event series of the same name, the ethos of the imprint is set out like his party, to simply provide “good music that moves your body”. Through their output they’ll be exploring the connections between house, bruk, soul, boogie, ragga and more, kicking things off with a various artists compilation that features the twisted sounds of Trev, Captain Over, James Rudie, Szajna, Ishfaq and Xtra Brux.

Today we focus on the latter, as Xtra Brux’s rudeboy workout ‘Somebody’ inflicts damage in all the right places. Working to a winning formula of scattered breaks, rumbling subs and cut-up vocals, we’re sure the track will no doubt slip into the hands of any propa jungle, garage, or funky selector.
