First Listen : Viers – ‘Moomin Trash’ (Figure)

Scrolling through the catalogue of Len Faki’s ‘Figure‘ label feels more like reading a list of who’s who in contemporary techno. Over the last fifteen years the label has been home to an extensive roster of talent, with releases from veterans Samuel L Session and Slam, as well as fresh faces such as Setaoc Mass. To celebrate fifteen years in business, the label is set to release a 4X12″ compilation with tracks from their most defining current artists. It will be the 100th release for the label, showcasing their signature sound that combines the boldness of techno’s early days with a modern sensibility.

Today we premiere Leeds-based Viers‘ contribution to the compilation. The young producer turned heads in 2013 after the video for his ‘17333‘ went viral. Once you gloss over the bizarre visuals, you’re left with a well-produced techno track with a solid groove. He then made a name for himself with a number of housey releases on various labels before joining the Figure roster and turning his attention to techno. ‘Moomin Trash,’ shows Viers adopting the punchier sound of the label whilst retaining the signature danceability of his productions. Take a listen.

‘FIGURE 100’ is out September 17 on Figure.
