Utah? explores softer grime textures on ‘250ml’

Forthcoming on Nitrogen, the follow-up to 2015’s excellent Oxygen.

On ‘250ml’, Sheffield-based producer Utah? combines icy, echoing synths with kicks and hi-hats that sound partially submerged in water. The effect could be ominous, and gloomy, but in the hands of Utah? it feels far grander – as though inviting the listener along to go exploring. Like so many tracks in the mould of instrumental grime, it fits in well with the bleak grey of England, but while it’s certainly emotive, it is never melancholy.

Utah? lands on Kastle’s Symbols imprint February 10 with seven-track EP Nitrogen, an exploration of bass-heavy UK dance music. You can pre-order it here, and listen to ‘250ml’ in full below.
