Manuka Records is an independent electronic music record label hailing from Manchester and the Pacific North West, representing vanguards worldwide. Founded in 2018 by artists Louis Richardson (Hypho) and Amadeo Sanchez (1/2 Xakra), it set out to be a platform for the most obscure, cutting-edge sound, specialising in the darker tones of UK bass, techno, dubstep and grime.
With two releases under their belt since launching, their latest venture comes via Seattle dubstep producer Tony Rocky Horror. One of his city’s deadliest weapons, each of the three original productions across his Barstow EP come sharp, as Tony piles fierce bass mutilations on top of skippy upfront riddims.
Leaving half the record open to remixes, fellow dubstep heavyweights Sepia, OldGold and Biome each offer an alternative cut. Today we turn attention to the Manchester producer’s edit, as Biome chooses to only shift gear slightly by leaving just a little more headroom for the damage to take course.
Tony Rocky Horror’s Barstow EP is forthcoming via Manuka Records.
