Since forging a career in the dubstep era with his acclaimed debut album Changes, the music of Synkro has become increasingly difficult to pigeonhole.
Whilst autonomic frameworks and sub-low dominance are still clear traits within his works, the Manchester producer has continued to carve his own brand of emotive electronic music throughout his extensive discography, building a profile thats sits him alongside names like Boards Of Canada, dBridge, Burial and Oneohtrix Point Never.
Returning to his newly formed Synkro Musik imprint for his second release of the year, three-track EP Gagaku finds Synkro adding elements of contemporary Japanese music to his ghostly palette, with the word in English translating to ‘elegant music’, and the subtle twists of his fragile textures proving to be just that on the ears.
Recruiting drum and bass artist Frederic Robinson to take on the original, the German producer’s neatly executed rework warms up the track’s frosty conditions. Listen in full below.
Limited to 300 hand stamped vinyl & digital. Gagaku is out December 21.
