Lurking in Newcastle, Shawn Cartier is a new name to many, but by no means does this make him any less stealthy. One third of the Quest808 collective, he has been instrumental in curating future-forward parties, working tirelessly to open up the Newcastle scene to an international community; they rep an unprejudiced sound that has brought Nicolas Lutz, Carl Finlow, Byron The Aquarius and Solid Blake to the city.
Behind closed doors, Shawn’s dedication to music comes alive in the studio, churning out tracks at any spare moment. His Soundcloud is a stream of self-released productions. Undefined by genre and not shy of sticking and flipping vocal samples for effect, they have also found places on North-East label, Kaneda Records and the US-based, Abu Recordings. Now, he steps out on Glasgow’s Reality Club Records with ‘Battle Of The Wet Balloons’ EP.
A package of electro delights, we have the exclusive on the murky triplett, ‘Gangster’. A quick witted snapper held down by gurn-wrenching bass, Cartier’s partiality for a vocal sample takes real form with a peppering of seriousness to this heads down, skank bound number.
Battle Of The Wet Balloons will land via Reality Club Records on 12th March.
