First Listen: Roska – ‘Frst & Frmst’ (Roska Kicks & Snares)

South London producer Wayne Goodlitt aka Roska, has been a steady fixture on the UK club circuit since the turn of the decade. From kick-starting his career with his own Roska Kicks & Snares label, the UK Funky spearhead has released a diverse series of records on lauded homegrown imprints such as Hotflush, Numbers and most notably, Rinse. His guest slots on the former pirate radio station blossomed into a frequent fixture from 2010 onwards and has benefited the wide musical scope that gives his DJ sets so much versatility. See what happened when he interviewed fellow Rinse affiliate Royal-T in 2012 and have a listen to his superb Hyp mix all the way back in 2010.

Roska has had a part to play in the rapidly shifting face of Bass music, managing to adapt and innovate his own productions into a hybrid of whatever he sees fit. Having released ‘Hyperion’ on Pinch’s Tectonic label earlier this year, July 17 will see Goodlitt return to his own imprint with two-tracker ‘Frst & Frmst’. It features an appearance from frequent collaborator and Hyperdub mainstay Scratcha DVA on ‘Lean Green’ and we’ve got an exclusive stream of the title track. It’s a tropical peak time banger filled with the jubilant swing of the UK Garage Goodlitt grew up listening to and the more Deep House leanings he’s been dabbling with in recent years. Roska’s drums and percussion hit hard as ever and there’s an irresistible catchiness to the main synth line, as though some taunting fly is buzzing around your head. Get stuck in to this one below, perfect for the sticky weather we’ve been experiencing lately…

‘Frst & Frmst’ is out July 17 on Roska Kicks & Snares. Pre-order it here and follow Roska on Twitter and Soundcloud.
