First Listen: Mamboussa – ‘Stadium’ (Merge Layers)

Strictly club music.

Merge Layers is a brand new imprint founded by Italian producers and Radar Radio regulars Natlek and Nobel.

Their first release will be Merge Layers Function Vol. 1, a compilation showcasing bass-inflected house and techno flavours. Both label bosses contribute a track each, with the rest coming from names such as Kieran Loftus, Dean Lyon and Cameron Traxxx.

We’re premiering closing track ‘Stadium’ by Montpellier producer Mamboussa, who guested on Merge Tracks’ Radar show last month, and has previously released on labels including Cult City, Weird Club Milan and his own Oneshot Selection.

Fascinated by the ’80s, Mamboussa lists disco and jazz among his varied inspirations. Here, with a funky guitar stab driving proceedings, the swell comes courtesy of a roaring crowd whose appreciation is never in doubt. Jersey club claps drive home the stadium theme, and there’s even a hint of baseball organ in the mix at one point. An epic curtain closer indeed, and one of those tracks that has the potential to lift a DJ set into the stratosphere.

Merge Layers Function Vol. 1 is out 28th November. Pre-order right here.
