First Listen: L U C Y – ‘Okiniiri Riddim’ (Trapdoor)

Lucy Helyer is a promising talent. Operating under the moniker L U C Y, her club constructions travel through the worlds of of grime, Jersey club, jungle and beyond.

Hailing from Bristol, the young producer proudly wears her heritage on her sleeve, channelling the city’s musical history of dub, trip-hop and dubstep into her own warped palette of innovative club weapons.

Previously making it the finals of Red Bull’s Riddim Rally, L U C Y’s first official offering came via her self-released Mixtape 01 last year, with 13 experimental cuts that successfully balanced soulful flavours alongside the darker edges of the dancefloor.

Her latest effort, Locations EP, comes via London label Trapdoor, and once again sees her play with a wide range of styles, taking us through ambient, jazz, hip-hop and jungle across four tracks.

Today we premiere ‘Okiniiri Riddim’, a digi-dancehall vibe of tickly percussion, gliding squares and tender piano moments.

The Locations EP is out now on Trapdoor. Order it here.
