Check out an exclusive first play of Love & Mercy’s debut on their own ManMakeMusic imprint.
The label’s 10th release is a selection of stripped back house from co-founders Love & Mercy that also takes in remixes from label mate U and German producer Quarion. Stepping out of the shadow of fellow ManMakeMusic head George FitzGerald for their first ever outing on vinyl, Love & Mercy open the EP with ‘Rainfall’, a seductive blend of sampled soul vox, plaintive chords and shuffling percussion. ‘Polytomy’ on the flip takes a ticking kick/snare combo and coats it in lightly droning synth notes and full, groove heavy bassline.
Quarion comes across all Move D on his rework of ‘Rainfall’, taking his time to let the track’s inner funk out via some delightfully timed releases and the introduction of playful synth melodies. U’s take on ‘Polytomy’ meanwhile brings up the original’s bass to formidable levels before allowing luxuriant deep house pads to smooth things out nicely.
Buyers of the vinyl release, out on 18th November, also get another rework of ‘Rainfall’ from Quarion’s hardware only ‘QRN Project’ alias. Those that are digitally inclined can grab the EP on 2nd December, with both formats available for pre-order here. Finally, you can catch the Love & Mercy boys playing ManMakeMusic’s Christmas party at London venue Basement on 13th December. Entry to that event is available either from RSVP’ing here or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
