First Listen: Gary Dinger – ‘Pingers’ (Enchanted Rhythms)

YouTube curators are a dying breed. We often owe our deepest thanks to those uploading unknown gems and unassuming bangers for us to spray freely in DJ sets and share amongst our friends and take the plaudits. For many a curator this is just a hobby, a generous means of sharing loot from the record shop down the road or the 2000 record mystery Ebay haul. Enchanted Rhythms is one these guys; a name synonymous with some of the finest, and rarest UKG on YouTube, he’s now putting his practice into running a label.

ER001 is a V/A reeking of the same contemporary subby swagger that ER brandishes on his channel – 4 cuts of deep and funky UK 2-step from 4 unknown newcomers. Getting in on the action is ambiguous producer Gary Dinger with ‘Pingers’. It’s 6 minutes of playful basslines, textbook 2-step breaks and a Steppenwolf sample that should be no-go territory but wonderfully works in the weirdest of ways.

If you pop his name into Google you’re likely to be met by the friendly face of a Dr Gary Dinger from Ohio – not the type of face you’d associate with nostalgic UKG nor Pingers, however this is tune you don’t need a prescription for, enjoy it in all its glory below.

ER001 releases 6th September via Enchanted Rhythms.

You can also catch Enchanted Rhythms playing Venue MOT Unit 18 this Saturday 7th September.
