First Listen: Forest Drive West – ‘Parallel Space’ (Echocord)

Murky dub techno formulas from London’s Forest Drive West.

Joe Baker is the figure behind the captivating works of Forest Drive West. Originally a name for his would-be label, it was after connecting with two-long time influences in 2016 – Peverelist and legendary d&b outfit Rupture London – that Baker found himself releasing music under the pseudonym.

Fast forward three years and the London artist holds close ties to labels like Livity Sound, Hidden Hawaii, Neighbourhood and Whities, honing a sound that explores the outer edges of deep techno and rugged jungle with masterful sonic precision.

His latest project marks a return to Copenhagen’s Echocord following an earlier remix of Babe Roots on the imprint. This time he strikes out solo, with three new dub techno experiments that perfectly execute the murky club control Baker’s become so admired for.

Ahead of the January release, tuck into the EP’s title-track below.

Parallel Space EP is out January 10th 2020 on Echochord.
