First Listen: Filter Dread – ‘Blizzard’ (Tech Startup)

Think Seattle, and a number of things spring to mind; The Seattle Seahawks, The Space Needle, Starbucks, but not jungle-tekno.

Known mainly for its rich grunge scene in the late ’80s, and most notably harbouring Nirvana in their formative years, Seattle hasn’t ever really been recognised as a city championing underground electronic music. That’s where Tech Startup are looking to break the mould.

Established in late 2018, the label pushes fresh dance music from exciting producers on the ascent, and its third entry comes from Cambridge based “beat scientist” Filter Dread. Dread stands out as a veteran amongst the label’s roster having been producing and releasing for nearly 7 years, with this offering demonstrating a maturity, wisdom and dedication to jungle, techno and hardcore alike.

TS000003 is a frantic excursion into all of the above whilst playing on footwork-esque drum work, grime-inspired stabs and jungle-tinged drum rolls. We’ve got an exclusive first play of A2 ‘Blizzard’ which keeps up appearances impressively. Like its name sake suggests, its a barrage of glitchy percussion and icy pads occupying 4 and a half whirlwind minutes. Check it below.

TS000003 is out July 5th 2019, you can pre-order it here
