First Listen: DJ Suzmo – ‘Minuit Vingt Deux’ (Sample Delivery)

There’s a new EP on the way from Sample Delivery heads DJ Suzmo and Gecin

The sound of Parisian label, Sample Delivery has only grown since its inception back in 2017. With producers DJ Suzmo, Gecin, Sun Gun and DJ Bivoul as the engine, this enigmatic four-strong crew have each ploughed out numeral releases whilst also bringing in other lesser known producers along the way. As their name may suggest, sampling forms a certain focus in the output of the label members yet their overall identity doesn’t follow a particular linear direction in terms of genre. Ranging everything from funky disco house grooves to chaotic acid and hardcore, Sample Delivery can be remembered for it’s undeniable quality, pairing top class production and sound with a marked visual language in their cover art.

Undoubtedly, one quarter of the SD crew, DJ Suzmo feeds into the maintenance of such standards. As an artist, the autonomous nature of Suzmo extends far beyond the realms of Sample Delivery.  His ‘Fast Club Edits’ series self-released via Bandcamp sees Suzmo’s persistent pushing of the bar, unafraid to think the unthinkable. Edits include a cute, video game flip of Vybz Kartel and Shenseea’s ‘Movie’ and a footwork blend of Ashanti’s ‘Foolish’ with 21 Savage’s ‘ball w/o you’.

Clearly holding a deep appreciation for a whole spectrum of sounds, DJ Suzmo’s ‘Minuit Vingt Deux’ is yet another essential listen. A love letter to UK jungle and hardcore, veiled with weighty jabbing kicks and fluttering, dopamine drenched synths. It’s a fine piece of dancefloor engineering, poised to ignite moments of pure, unbashed elation for all.
