Andy Garvey’s influence on underground Australian music can’t be overlooked. She’s held a weekly position as a radio host on FBI Radio for the last two years, whilst the Sydney based producer’s first release came out last month via Lobster Theremin and was lauded for its sultry blend of acid and electro. Garvey’s role also extends to admin; she runs a booking agency, Nectar, with four friends and calls it a “passion project”, as the money they make isn’t used as a salary. They’re saving up to buy a set of decks and a studio space to help support rising artists.
Now she’s launched another raid into the music industry by creating a label, Pure Space Recordings, with a focus on Australian music that’s for home listening as well as finding a place in the club. Its first release is a four-track compilation of artists titled, PS001.1.
Fellow Aussie producer Daze kicks off the EP with ‘Advanced Reality’, a rolling acid squelcher that slowly adds hi-hats and tinkling synths to form an unrelenting track. Have a listen below.
