First Listen: Cassius Select – ‘They Shook’ (Hypercolour)

Sydney producer Cassius Select continues to test the club with his crooked beats and twisted rave experiments.

Having made his name carving beats for Australian labels like Hunter Gatherer, Plastic World and DJ Haus’ Unknown To The Unknown, Cassius Select’s ability to move freely between various sub-low genres makes him one of the most intriguing figures of the underground.

Following efforts on Matthew Herbert’s sub-label Accidental Junior, the Aussie’s latest offering, Fake Death, sees him debut on Hypercolour with six cuts of “mutilated beats and dense auras” that dive deep into the murky waters of techno, grime, dancehall and beyond.

Today we premiere EP opener ‘They Shook’, which, after the fog clears, hits us with a burst of frantic drum play and razor sharp sub-pressure.

Fake Death is out June 22 on Hypercolour.
