First Listen: Barom – ‘Bright-Eyed’ (Off-Switch Audio)

Leipzig-based producer Barom returns to Bristol’s Off-Switch Audio catalogue with the six-tracker ‘don’t leave, never arrive please’. Seen last year on Off-Switch’s ‘Synaesthesia’ compilation, Barom is establishing himself as a real one to watch with his masterful sound that dips into grime and dubstep.
‘don’t leave, never arrive please’ sees the German producer delve into the depths of his grime-influenced style, drawing the attention of 140 sound heavyweights such as Commodo and Gantz. This near album-length work has a strong production aesthetic, perfectly encapsulating the style of Barom; the overall fantasy-like narrative making it a unique and skillfully crafted body of work. The overall aesthetic is topped with Off-Switch Audio’s in-house visual artist, Ori, also an animator and co-founder of the Vivid State night in Bristol.
Barom preps a slice of rave nostalgia on ‘Bright-Eyed’. A skippy bass-driven tune with a wholly energetic vibe, this track hits with a memorable clasp that grows on a steady crescendo; evocative and sentimental. If not the most hard-hitting track on the release, ‘Bright-Eyed’ stands out from the rest with a slightly trancey approach. Its rugged beats are clearing craving to pummel a soundsystem at full throttle. Check it out for yourself below.
