First Listen: Xao – ‘Karrakis’ (Astral Black)

Born in Leeds and hailing from South London, Astral Black member Xao makes his long awaited production debut for the label with five-track EP Alloys.

Having headed up the crew’s monthly Radar Radio show since March, Xao brings his productions to light via Jon Phonics’ Astral Black imprint, with five cuts that skilfully nod towards the worlds of jungle, trap, grime and footwork in hauntingly futuristic fashion.

Following releases from the likes of DJ Milktray, Budgie, Jaisu and Inkke, Xao shows uncanny ability to drift between tempos, instrumentation and genre, remodeling various rave frameworks and dropping the temperature below zero, as emotive melodics and deadly weight rupture underneath the icy surfaces.

Limited edition cassettes of Alloy will be available via Bleep on the 28 July, whilst the full digital release will be available August 4. Ahead of AST022, we are excited to stream ‘Karrakis’, where pain struck forces move unforgivingly forward, resulting in a frantic footwork roller. Check below.

Xao’s Alloys EP is out August 4 on Astral Black Records. Pre-Order it here.
