Amp Fiddler: Five of the funkiest

Amp Fiddler oozes funk. The Detroit native has been at the heart of the sound all his life, from teaching hip hop legend J Dilla to use the MPC, to producing Jamiroquai, via being in the iconic Parliament Funkadelic band alongside George Clinton.

His live shows are smooth and soulful fusions of house, hip hop and jazz with, of course plenty of funk, plus his own guitar playing, keys and vocal work.

He takes his show to Moovin Festival on August Bank Holiday weekend at the eco-friendly Whitebottom farm in the stunning countryside of Etherow Country Park, Compstall alongside acts like De La Soul, Cold Cut, Eek-A-Mouse, Craig Charles, Groove Armada, Goldie, DJ Yoda and many more.

Before that we round up his five finest and funkiest moments.

1. Amp Fiddler – I Believe In You

One of his smoothest tunes, with squelchy bass, warped synths and slow motion drums that feel like they might collapse at any moment. Peak chill.

2. Amp Fiddler live at Glastonbury

A full half hour of his set from Glastonbury that touches on reggae, house and up tempo funk and featuring some brilliant backing singers that add to the lushness.

3. “Fiddler On Tha Roof” live at Output, Brooklyn

A stunning performance as the sunsets on New York that finds Amp serving up sultry vocals over jazz drums and gorgeous keys that melt your heart.

4. Return Of The Ghetto Fly ft. J Dilla, T3 & Neco Redd

A blissful standout from his latest album, this is the sound of the funk master flexing his muscle on a crisp beat that was originally produced by J Dilla.

5. Amp Fiddler – I Got It

This one slips into deep house mode, with silky vocals and gorgeous boogie synths noodling away as lazy drum loops get you in the mood.

Catch Amp Fiddler live at Moovin Festival, August 24-26.
